Requirements and Restrictions to TRAVEL to FRANCE in 2022. Tests and Vaccines.

Since the beginning of the crisis, the border health control system has made it possible to protect our health system and delay the arrival on national territory of variants with worrying characteristics.
This system, which mobilizes nearly 6,000 members of civil security every week to carry out the tests, border guards to check the health documents of travelers and internal security forces to check the isolation or quarantine measures decided by the prefects, it is periodically adapted to changes in the health situation and community standards.

Faced with the new phase of the pandemic characterized, in most countries, by the predominance of the Omicron variant and a high level of vaccination, the Government has decided to lighten this health control system at the borders, in particular for vaccinated travelers .

Requirements to travel to France

From February 12, 2022, the following rules apply at the borders:

For vaccinated travelers within the meaning of European regulations, no further tests are required on departure. Proof of a complete vaccination schedule becomes sufficient to reach France, regardless of the country of origin, as was the case before the distribution of the Omicron variant.
For unvaccinated travelers, the obligation to present a negative test to travel to France is maintained, but the measures on arrival (test, isolation) are lifted when they come from countries on the “green” list, characterized by a moderate circulation of the virus .

When unvaccinated travelers come from an “orange” list country, they must still present a compelling reason justifying the need to come to mainland France and may still be subject to random testing on arrival. Travelers who test positive will be required to isolate themselves, in accordance with Health Insurance recommendations.
In the event of an emergency characterized by the appearance of a variant likely to present a risk of increased transmissibility or immune escape, the “emergency brake” mechanism will be activated and the country will be placed on the “red” list, which implies, as is the case today, the obligation to present a compelling reason to travel, the obligation to present a negative test on departure – even for vaccinated travelers in the case of a variant that has the characteristic of escape immunity – and the obligation to undergo a test upon arrival conditioning the quarantine decided by the prefects and controlled by the police.

Said classification will be temporary and will be reviewed periodically to guarantee the proportionality of the travel restriction measures. Currently, no country is classified on the “red” list.

These border regulations may be adapted depending on the evolution of the health situation, and in line with the work that is currently being carried out with our European partners.

On the other hand, given the health situation of the Overseas Territories, the health control procedures to access them remain unchanged at this stage.
